Frozen fries and other prepared frozen potatoes have become a real export line for Egypt. Figures from the Food Export Council show about 238,000 tonnes shipped in 2025 for roughly $253 million, compared with $213 million a year before, which ranks the country 11th in the world with around 2 percent of global trade. Five markets, led by Jordan and Saudi Arabia and including Brazil, the UAE and the United States, absorbed three quarters of the value. The business is concentrated: eleven firms out of 127 account for almost all shipments. For European and Canadian processors this means a low-cost rival in the Gulf and South American markets. For Egyptian growers it means more demand for processing varieties and contract supply. The figures are council data repeated by several Egyptian outlets; growth rates quoted in different reports vary with the base year used.
Egypt is building a strong frozen potato export business. In 2025, exports of frozen prepared potatoes reached about $253 million.
The data come from the Egyptian Food Export Council. Al-Gomhuria and Youm7 published the figures on 21 September, and Banker News followed on 23 September.
Export volume reached about 238,000 tonnes. In 2024, the value was $213 million.

The growth places Egypt 11th among world exporters in this category. Its share of global exports is about 2%.
Suuqyada waaweyn
Jordan was the largest buyer at $51 million, or 20% of the total. Saudi Arabia followed with $45 million, or 18%.
Brazil bought $36 million, the United Arab Emirates $32 million and the United States $27 million. The five markets together took $191 million, or 75% of exports.
Arab countries took 72% of exports, according to an earlier council analysis published by Al-Mal.

Banker News compared the result with 2015. At that time, exports were worth about $50 million and totalled about 48,000 tonnes.
The council counts 127 Egyptian exporters in the category. Eleven companies generate 97% of export value.
Banker News estimates untapped export opportunities of more than $80 million.
A large global market
World imports of frozen prepared potatoes reached $14.2 billion in 2025, or about 9.5 million tonnes. Belgium leads exports with 29% of the market. The Netherlands and Canada follow.
Egypt already ranks among the top fresh potato exporters. The frozen category adds a processed product with higher value per tonne.

Egypt grows potatoes all year and has lower costs than many European suppliers. Its frozen fries industry now reaches markets from the Gulf to Brazil and the United States. This creates new competition for European and North American processors in price-sensitive markets. It also raises demand for processing varieties, contract growing and cold chain capacity in Egypt.
